Watch THE OLD HOUSE
A unique film-theatre experience exploring love, memory, presence and what it means to truly see another person.
The Old House is not simply a filmed record of a theatre production. Created specifically as a hybrid between live performance and film, this beautifully crafted version brings the intimacy and immediacy of theatre together with the visual possibilities of film.
At its heart, The Old House explores the relationship between a mother and daughter as the mother lives with Alzheimer’s.
But this is not a story that simply follows the familiar tragedy narrative of dementia.
Instead, The Old House asks us to look again.
What happens when we stop searching for the person someone used to be and begin to discover the person who is here, now? What becomes possible when we meet each other in the present moment?
Through humour, tenderness, imagination, The Old House explores presence, connection and the possibility of finding wonder in the ordinary.
These ideas lie at the heart of the work too. As a Meisner teacher, I have spent years exploring the importance of truthful, moment-to-moment connection: listening, responding and being fully present with another person. In many ways, people living with Alzheimer’s can challenge us to consider these same questions — and perhaps even teach us something about how to live more fully in the present.
By booking to watch The Old House, you are also helping to support the work of organisations reimagining how we understand and respond to dementia.
30% of all proceeds will be donated to dementia charities, including Reimagining Dementia and Arts for Dementia.
So this is an invitation.
Watch the show. Enter The Old House. And perhaps allow it to change the way you think about memory, loss, connection — and what it means to be truly present with another human being.
